How much does a website cost in Uganda in 2026?

Website prices in Uganda range from UGX 500,000 to over UGX 20,000,000 depending on what you're building. Here's what you get at each price point and what actually drives the cost up.

One of the most common questions we get from Ugandan businesses is: how much should I budget for a website? The honest answer depends on what you're actually building. But 'it depends' isn't useful when you're trying to plan a budget. So here's a real breakdown of what websites cost in Uganda in 2026 and what makes the price go up or down.

Why prices vary so much

A website is not one thing. A one-page site listing your phone number and services is completely different from an online store that processes Mobile Money payments, manages inventory, and sends customers order confirmation by SMS. Before comparing quotes, make sure you're comparing the same thing.

The main factors that affect price:

  • Number of pages and how complex each one is
  • Whether you need a custom design or a template
  • Whether someone needs to write your content or you're providing it
  • What integrations are required: payments, bookings, logins
  • Speed and SEO built into the build or added later
  • Support and maintenance after launch

Simple one-page or brochure sites

Price range: UGX 500,000 to UGX 1,500,000

A single-page site or a 2 to 3 page website that tells people who you are, what you do, and how to reach you. Good for new businesses that need to be online quickly, freelancers, or businesses that mainly get customers through word of mouth and social media.

What's usually included at this level:

  • Homepage with your services, contact details, and a map
  • Basic mobile-friendly design that works on phones
  • Contact form or WhatsApp button
  • Google Maps embed

What's usually not included:

  • Custom design (most use a template)
  • SEO setup beyond the basics
  • Blog or content management system
  • Any form of online payment or booking

Small business websites (3 to 8 pages)

Price range: UGX 1,500,000 to UGX 4,500,000

A proper multi-page website for a business that wants to look professional online, rank on Google, and handle serious enquiries. This is the category most established Ugandan businesses fall into.

What you should expect at this price:

  • Custom or semi-custom design tailored to your brand
  • 5 to 8 pages: home, about, services, team, blog, contact
  • Mobile-optimised and fast-loading
  • Basic SEO setup: meta tags, sitemap, Google Search Console submission
  • A CMS so you can update content yourself
  • Contact form wired to your email

Good for: clinics, law firms, schools, NGOs, service businesses, restaurants with an online menu.

Online stores and e-commerce

Price range: UGX 3,500,000 to UGX 10,000,000+

An online store with a product catalog, shopping cart, and payment integration. Prices vary significantly based on how many products you have, which payment methods you need, and how much custom work is involved.

What's usually included:

  • Product catalog with categories, search, and filters
  • Shopping cart and checkout flow
  • Mobile Money integration (MTN, Airtel)
  • Card payment via Flutterwave or Pesapal
  • Order management panel for the business owner
  • Customer email or SMS notifications

What adds to the price: large catalogs with hundreds of products, subscription billing, delivery tracking integration, custom product configurators.

Custom platforms, apps, and dashboards

Price range: UGX 8,000,000 and above, priced per project

Custom software: management systems, booking platforms, membership portals, internal dashboards, mobile apps. These are scoped individually because the range is enormous.

Some examples from our own work:

  • HotBill: a WiFi billing platform for ISPs and hotspot operators
  • BioAttend: a biometric attendance system for schools
  • SAO Uganda: a nonprofit program platform with donation processing

The only way to get an accurate price for a custom platform is to scope it properly. We do this at no cost.

What makes the price go up

When you're comparing quotes, these are the things that legitimately increase cost:

  • Tight timelines: rushing a project adds cost
  • Custom integrations: connecting to third-party systems takes significant time
  • Content creation: if the developer has to write your text and source your photos, that's extra work
  • Multiple languages: building an English and Luganda version of a site doubles certain work
  • Ongoing SEO: a separate engagement from the build itself

What to watch out for when getting quotes

A few things that should make you ask more questions:

  • Very cheap quotes with no detail: UGX 200,000 for 'a full website' usually means a template with your name swapped in, hosted somewhere free, with no SEO and no support
  • No portfolio of live sites: ask to see real sites they've built and open them on your phone
  • No mention of post-launch support: what happens when something breaks?
  • Vague payment terms: professional agencies have clear milestone-based payment schedules

What every Ugandan website should include by default

Regardless of price, any website built in 2026 should have:

  • Mobile-first design: most of your customers are on phones
  • Fast loading: especially on 3G and 4G connections
  • WhatsApp contact button: Ugandan customers expect to be able to WhatsApp you directly
  • Google Maps or directions: your location properly embedded
  • SSL certificate: the padlock in the browser
  • Basic SEO setup: at minimum, a sitemap submitted to Google

If a quote doesn't mention these, ask specifically.
